Mbappé and Messi nominated for athlete of the year
The two Paris Saint-Germain players have been nominated for the Laureus World sports awards, that reward the greatest sportsmen on the planet every year.
It is now official: the list of nominees for the Laureus World Sports Awards 2023, which recognises the world's greatest sportsmen, women and teams, has been unveiled, after a selection made by 1,400 sports journalists worldwide.
Among them are Kylian Mbappé and Leo Messi!
The Frenchman, top scorer at the last FIFA World Cup in Qatar and top scorer in the French league with Paris Saint-Germain, has been nominated for the Laureus Sportsman of the Year award.
His teammate Leo Messi has also been nominated! His Rouge et Bleu teammate won the only trophy missing from his trophy cabinet this winter by leading Argentina to the World Cup trophy. He is also nominated for the Laureus Team of the Year award with the Argentine national team.
Our two Parisians have been selected alongside other legendary athletes: tennis player Rafael Nadal, Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen, basketball player Stephen Curry and pole vaulter Armand Duplantis.
The winners will be announced at the Laureus World Sports Awards in the spring.
