Mbappé among the top scorers at the World Cup

The Paris Saint-Germain forward ends the group stage of the FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022 with three goals to his name.

Top scorer in Ligue 1 before the international break (12 goals), the current top scorer in the Champions League (7 goals), it was only to be expected that the eyes of the world would be on Kylian Mbappé in the early stages of the World Cup. So far, it is mission accomplished for the France international, who is impressing at his third major international tournament.

With Les Bleus, the Paris Saint-Germain n°7 scored against Australia and then found the back of the net on two occasions against Denmark. Three goals that allowed him to join Zinedine Zidane in 7th place of the all-time top scorers for the French national team, with no less than 31 goals in total.

Voted man of the match in both of those matches, Kylian Mbappé has now become the most capped Paris Saint-Germain player with Les Tricolores, having picked up 57 caps while playing for the Rouge Bleu. That's two more than Blaise Matuidi.

The forward who took home the title of Young Player of the Tournament at the World Cup in 2018, the tournament at which he was crowned World Champion, will be back in action on Sunday in the Round of 16 match between France and Poland! Before the knockout stage gets underway, he features in the top five scorers in the competition.

Leo Messi has also impressed at the start of this World Cup, with two goals scored in two outings against Saudi Arabia and then Mexico. In that match, he also turned provider for the second Argentina goal. It's worth noting that with that goal, our n°30 equalled Diego Maradona's record for Argentine goals at a World Cup. Only Gabriel Batistuta (10 goals) has a better record.

On Saturday, he has the chance to enter into the history books once more during the Round of 16 encounter against Australia, in what would be his 1000th competitive match.
