Luis Enrique's 100 PSG games revisited in numbers
Following Luis Enrique’s 100th game as Paris Saint-Germain manager in the first leg of his side’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Aston Villa last night, check out the standout figures from the Spaniard’s century of matches at the capital club!
It's 100 not out for Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique, who celebrated reaching this symbolic milestone last night in perfect fashion: with a scintillating 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. The Spanish coach isn't getting carried away, though, as he knows that you can never take anything for granted.
Despite already turning his attention to his 101st match in charge of PSG, which will be the second leg of his team's UCL quarter-final at Villa Park next Tuesday, Enrique can be proud of his accomplishments so far.
The first key statistic from his nearly two seasons here is that Enrique has lost just two matches against French clubs across all competitions. On top of his two Ligue 1 titles, his pair of Trophées des Champions and his perfect record in the Coupe de France ahead of the final of this year's edition against Reims on 24th May, the Paris boss has only been beaten by Nice and Toulouse across a total of 57 domestic matches (including the recent Champions League play-off against Brest).
In addition, Enrique has picked up 70 wins in his 100 games across all competitions, meaning that even those of us who aren't great with numbers can easily work out his win percentage: 70%, with an average of 2.51 goals scored per game and 2.60 in Ligue 1 alone.
Speaking of Ligue 1, Enrique's PSG have earned an average of 2.42 points per game in the French top flight, which is the best record that any of the club's managers since the 2011–2012 season has achieved.
These stats will undoubtedly become even more significant as we approach the end of the season, too, with the final few games of the Ligue 1 season, the Coupe de France final, the climax of the Champions League knockout stage and, of course, the FIFA Club World Cup still to be played.
