Luis Enrique: "Win our first title this season".

The Paris Saint-Germain coach answered questions from PSG TV and the media ahead of the 2023 Trophée des Champions clash with Toulouse FC on Wednesday 3rd January at 8:45PM at the Parc des Princes. Here are some extracts from the interview.

A special match

"Every time you play in a final, it means you played well the previous season, and that's a good sign. A final is the perfect time to see how good your team is. As the minutes go by, you can't control everything, so you have to adapt to what's going on. It's very stimulating for us. We have the chance to win a title and a great club like Paris Saint-Germain lives for this type of match."

The chance to win a first title with Paris

"Tomorrow, we have the opportunity to play a match to win our first title this season, so that's a source of motivation. Our aim is to win every title possible. It would be a reward for all the work we put in last year, so of course we're very motivated. I'd love to be able to play for a trophy every week, like all the players I think. Of course, the motivation is greater than any normal league match. It's going to be played at home but on neutral ground. I imagine the atmosphere will be great, so we're delighted."

Toulouse

"They're a team that can do a lot with the ball. If you give them time, they're very good at occupying space. Without the ball, they can also perform well. They're a team that works well with their coach Carles Martinez Novell. They were very good last year, winning the Coupe de France. Both teams will be motivated, and we'll have 90 minutes to see which is the better side."

Lucas Beraldo

"Lucas is the first player to arrive during this transfer window. He's been able to train with us, so we've seen a bit of what we already knew. We always try to have as much information as possible to understand the complete profile of a player. We want every player who joins the club to be very professional, a fighter. Lucas Beraldo meets all these requirements. He's a left-back who knows how to defend and is very comfortable with the ball.

We had already given some thought to signing him during pre-season. We saw very clearly that he's a player who could help the team despite his young age. He's a player from another continent, so it's always difficult for them, it's up to us to make his transition as easy as possible. When he's ready, he'll play, but there'll be no rush."

The winter transfer window

"If I can have several players available in each position, I'd obviously be delighted. We'll be paying close attention during this transfer window, and we'll see if there are any opportunities that allow us to improve the team. The winter transfer market is always a difficult one, and different from the summer one."
