Luis Enrique: "We showed that we're a team of warriors"
Luis Enrique
"We struggled a lot, it was difficult for us. They're a team that knows how to play very well, a team that doesn't lose the ball. There were moments in the first half where we realised it wasn't enough to press in any which way. I think the first half of the match was more favourable for us and we had clear chances to score. It's a shame that we couldn't score here because I think the end of the match would have been a bit calmer. Whether we like it or not, it's important to be competitive. I think we did some good work. We've started the season exceptionally well with 5 wins from 5 and now we're going to prepare for 2 league games before the next Champions League fixture. I think the team continues to grow. Today we showed that we're a team of warriors, just like our supporters, who fight. They sang until the last minute, we fought until the last minute. It's satisfying to win like that too."
NUNO MENDES
"It was a difficult match. We tried to do everything to score more goals but we weren't able to do so. We managed to score one goal which gave us the win and 3 points, that's the most important thing."
Warren Zaïre-Emery
"We knew we were coming up against a strong Girona side, we did some video analysis on them in training. We worked really hard all week to play our best possible match. We showed the strength of character we have as a team. We continued to push and create chances throughout the match. Now we're going to work all season long to put together the best possible team and win every match. When you're a football player you want to play in all the matches. I like it. These are big competitions, all the players want to play in these competitions and I'm very happy to kick start the Champions League with 3 points at home."
