Luis Enrique: 'I loved the atmosphere in the stadium'

The Paris Saint-Germain coach and Manuel Ugarte spoke to PSG TV after the first match of the season against FC Lorient on Saturday 12 August at the Parc des Princes (0-0).

LUIS ENRIQUE

"I'm both happy and frustrated. A bit like the fans, I think. I'm happy because we were able to play our game. We put pressure on our opponents in their own half. From a defensive point of view, our match was a 10 out of 10. Offensively, of course we had possession, but too often we had attacking players in the middle of their defensive block without creating any danger. In that respect, I preferred the second half. It's still difficult to play and score against a team that only thinks about defending.

Six new players in the starting line-up? When I see the reaction of our players to tonight's challenge, and the new players' debuts, I'm satisfied. I loved the atmosphere in the stadium. It's really impressive. But the problem is that my players don't hear me when I give them instructions (laughs). They can't hear me from 5 metres away because the crowd is cheering for the whole match. It's really impressive. I hope we can give them a lot of joy."

MANUEL UGARTE

"It was indeed a difficult match. I felt good out on the pitch. Up against us, we had a team that was difficult to play against, who were very defensive. It's difficult to create chances in those situations. What I take away is that we dominated the whole match. There's a bit of disappointment because it's always important to win. But we have to keep working.
There are a lot of new players, but we have the experience to make the difference on the pitch. It's by playing that we'll build our connections. There were positives to take away from tonight, but we're still disappointed with the result."
