Luis Enrique: 'I liked the attitude of the players'

The Paris Saint-Germain Coach, as well as Achraf Hakimi and Manuel Ugarte spoke to PSG TV after Les Rouge et Bleu's impressive victory over Borussia Dortmund (2-0), on Matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League group stage (2-0).

LUIS ENRIQUE

"I am very satisfied, very happy for the team, for the players, and for the fans. I liked the attitude of the players because from the very first minute, we were able to create goal-scoring opportunities. In the second half, we needed to replicate what we did in the first half, by dominating the game, staying in control against good opposition, who know how to play good football. And I think we were the better side and deserved the victory. This type of match is very motivating for the players, but you have to manage your energy, control when you play, the intensity, and not overdo it because overexcitement is not good. However, I think the team performed very well and dominated the match, except for the last 15 minutes when there was too much back and forth, but I am really very happy and satisfied."

Achraf hakimi

"We are very happy. We dominated the whole match, we did what we needed to do, what the coach asked of us all week. We are very happy with the win and we hope to continue in this way. I am pleased to be able to give my all for the team. I hope to continue like this, to always play at this level and to continue this form. My goal? These are spontaneous things that happen in a match, we needed to be the quickest. It’s what we did. And then, I looked to see if the defender was coming to me, so I dummied, and then struck with the outside of my foot and thank God, it went in.”

Manuel ugarte

“In the Champions League, you face very strong teams. They are all very competitive. I think the most important thing tactically is to be organised, because with details and tactical errors, the opposition can punish you. And I feel that we were very good. The individual quality of my teammates is incredible. I think the match wasn’t just a question of the team, but also the atmosphere, the stadium. It’s true that the supporters play a very important role because we can feel it when we play at home. They create a mentality that always makes matches at the Parc des Princes very difficult for our opponents. Today, it was very important to win. It’s extraordinary. Sometimes, when we play, we can hear the supporters. When we are really focused, we can still hear them and it’s incredible, we can feel them and it’s like an injection of energy.”
