Lucas Hernández: ‘I play to win, and I want to win everything here‘

Paris Saint-Germain’s new defender has given his first interview to PSG TV after signing for Les Rouge et Bleu. In it, he discusses his new life and the objectives he is setting for the upcoming season.

Lucas, how does it feel to have signed for Paris Saint-Germain?

"I am really delighted, it's something I've wanted to do for quite some time now, and it's finally happening. I'm very happy to be here today. It's a very special day for me, coming to Paris Saint-Germain and with this ambition, I'm very happy to be able to be here."

Why did you choose Paris Saint-Germain?

"It's an ambitious club, that is hungry to win titles. I've played for other big clubs, who also had great ambitions. Paris wants to achieve great things, and I hope to be able to help the club achieve them. I'm someone who always wants more in my career, and that's why I'm joining the club, to be able to achieve those objectives."

Interestingly enough, you have never played in France...

"I was born in France, but we moved to Spain with my mother and brother when I was three. I've never really lived in France, but I often come here, with the national team or sometimes for a few days. I love Paris, it's beautiful. I can't wait to start training and playing matches."

How would you describe your feelings when you arrived in Paris?

"I'm happy to be here, I'm going to give my all for the shirt. I want to be part of this family and lift a lot of trophies. And I'm going to give everything so that everyone pulls in the same direction and we all achieve great things together with Paris Saint-Germain. The fans will see that I give my all for the club."

You were injured during the World Cup, how do you feel today?

"The cruciate ligaments are an injury that is difficult to manage. That was seven months ago, and now I'm 100%. I can't wait for the first day of training and to be at my best with my team-mates. My knee is fine and everything is going really well."

You already play with Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappé for the national side...

"I know them very well, they are friends for me. I talked to them a lot before coming here. I'm very happy to be joining them and becoming their teammate at club level. I've told them that I hope we'll win more titles together, this time with Paris Saint-Germain."

What are your objectives with Paris Saint-Germain ?

"I'm coming to a very big club with top players. I'm young and I still have a lot to learn. I came here to learn, but also and above all to win trophies... As many as I can! That's my biggest source of motivation. I play to win, and I want to win everything here."
