Lionel Messi wins the UNFP Player of the Month award for September

Paris Saint-Germain striker Lionel Messi has won the UNFP’s Ligue 1 Player of the Month award for September.

Thanks to votes from TROPHEESUNFP.COM visitors, Lionel Messi finished ahead of LOSC striker Jonathan David and FC Lorient forward Dango Ouattara.

The Argentina international therefore succeeds his teammate Neymar Jr, who won the award in August, and receives the honour for the first time in his career.

It's a record 44th time that a Paris Saint-Germain player has won the award since its creation at the start of the 2003-04 season. The capital club is the most decorated French side in this respect, sitting ahead of Marseille (24 awards won) and both Lille and Lyon (18 awards won each).
