Lights, camera, action!

The eyes of the football world will pull sharp focus on Anfield Road this evening for the first huge clash of the UEFA Champions League when Paris Saint-Germain take on last season’s losing finalists Liverpool.

When stars collide… on Tuesday evening, in the mythical Anfield Road stadium, Les Rouge et Bleu take on the Reds in the opening match of Group C. The match promises goals between two attacking sides and plenty of passion as well with more than 2,500 Paris fans making the trip to Merseyside.

This clash arrives early in the UEFA Champions League season, but the French champions are always up for a challenge, as Rouge et Bleu coach Thomas Tuchel highlighted in Monday’s press conference: “It’s a good opportunity to see what we are capable of, to see where we’re at in a big game, to see how we react to the pressure. We will need to be in top form, give our very best to get a positive result. We will have to work hard to find the right solutions, the right tactics, but I also know that this type of scenario, this type of atmosphere can bring the best out of my team.”

Both teams come into the match boasting 100% records so far this season in their respective leagues. But one, or both, with drop points for the first time this term.

And both have been finding the back of the net with ease. Paris have scored 17 goals in five Ligue 1 matches, against 11 for Liverpool in the Premier League. Advantage Paris.

But Liverpool have been miserly in defence, conceding just twice, against four goals against for Paris. Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva knows that this match promises to be entertaining: “Tomorrow will be very tough because they will be looking to make a positive start to the competition and I think it will be a magnificent match to play in and also to watch, for lovers of football everywhere, with two of the best attacks in the world will be facing off.”

It’s an even contest on paper, and a crucially important one… football at its very best!
