The legendary Safet Sušić got his Paris Saint-Germain career underway with a game against Monaco on 18th December 1982 at the Parc des Princes, where, after coming on in the second half, he was unable to prevent his side from falling to a 1-0 defeat. Ronaldinho, meanwhile, scored his final goal for Paris against Monaco – a penalty on 4th May 2003 – while Pauleta opened his account with Paris in a 4-2 win over Les Monégasques on 24th August 2003. More recently, it was away to Monaco that Angel Di María made his Paris Saint-Germain debut, bagging himself an assist to celebrate in a 3-0 win on 30th August 2015.

Monaco and Paris first faced each other in the final of the Division 2 play-offs, at the old Stade Louis II, on 6th June 1971, when the two teams played out a 2-2 draw.

Since 1970, Paris have only played one competitive fixture without a manager in their dugout, and that fixture was against Monaco. Following Pierre Alonzo's shock resignation but before Velibor Vasović’s return, it was club president Francis Borelli who picked the starting XI for what was eventually a 2-1 defeat on “the Rock” on 4th November 1978.

On Friday night, there should be plenty of goals between these two teams, who haven't played out a single 0-0 with each other since a league game in Monaco on 1st March 2015. Since then, Paris and Monaco have scored 90 goals in 24 competitive fixtures against each other, making for an average of 3.75 goals per game.

Kylian Mbappé has scored at least once in each of Paris's last seven away games in the league, having netted twice against Brest, three times against Reims and once against Le Havre, Lille, Lens, Strasbourg and Nantes respectively. Les Rouge et Bleu's record holder in this respect is Zlatan Ibrahimović, who scored at least once in nine consecutive matches on the road in 2012–2013.

Having seen the France international score 11 goals past them, Monaco are one of Mbappé's favourite teams to score against, behind only Dijon and Lyon (against whom he has scored 12 goals) and level with Lille.
