Julian Draxler : 'Ready for the final stretch'

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder looks back at the club from the capital's start to the season before looking ahead to the final stretch.

Julian you arrived in Paris back in January 2017. How do you feel here?
"Time goes quickly, it's already been four years! I'm happy here. I like the club, my teammates, the city. The team helped me a lot at the start and then I quickly learned French to be able to communicate in day to day life. Paris is such an incredible city for me coming from a small town in Germany. I feel really good here."

You've got a very impressive stat this season: 4 goals in 4 shots this year in Ligue 1…
"That's ruthless! But it all depends on the position I play in. If I continue playing higher up the pitch I'll get more and more chances. I'm a versatile player and can play in multiple postions depending on what the team needs. It's a good stat for me. I hope I can continue shooting as much on goal. There is so much quality in the forward areas at Paris Saint-Germain but I can still play games and show quality. I'm happy with the role I play in this team."

Contrary to people's beliefs it's very hard to get a run of victories and nothing is ever guaranteed...
"Yes sometimes in France I feel like people think it's easy to win the league or a cup because we're Paris Saint-Germain. The whole team work hard all year and make it possible. This year is harder, it's very tight. There's a big challenge ahead. We're going to do all we can to win the league and the other competitions."

The qualification against Barcelona gave you an energy boost and confidence for the rest of the competition?
"Barcelona are a great team. We won 4-1 away and played incredibly well. After eliminating them it gave us great confidence. I feel like we're ready for the final push. There are still lots of games to play. We're going to play to win all the trophies and be ready both physically and mentally for every game."

A few months after the last Champions League final you face Bayern Munich once again. Is that extra motivation for you?
"It's not an easy draw because Bayern are one of the best teams in the world. They won the  Champions League against us last year. We've also got a great team and incredible players. I think it'll be a very tight game. Small details become important and make the difference in these matches. I feel like the team is ready for this game. We're going to give it our all."
