Juan Bernat: 'We have improved'

The Spain international looks back on the win over Real Madrid and ahead to Sunday's clash with Lyon.

Juan, what stands out from the win over Real Madrid?
"I think it was a really complete performance from the team. We were very solid. The whole team played to a very high level, and stopped Madrid from playing. We made a nice entrance into the Champions League, better than last year, but it's just the start. We have to stay focussed."

What were the coach's instructions before the game?
"We needed to impose our playing style, do what we're capable of. They have a lot of strengths, a lot of top quality players who can score or create danger at any time. You can't give them any space, you have to press them, not let them go when you lose the ball. I think the team did that perfectly, and the result reflects that. Madrid got close, but were never able to get a shot on target. It was a really complete performance from the whole team."

The new players have come in and performed straightaway...
"I think we have reinforced well, some great players have come in, we have kept the team from last year and I think, overall, we have improved."

You're meeting Lyon on Sunday. Last year, Paris Saint-Germain lost there. What do you remember of the game?
"It was very difficult. Lyon are a great team and are able to perform well in the big games. It's always a big game to play against them, especially when it's at their place. We're going there with a lot of confidence after the win against Madrid, but it's in the past now. We have to think about the game against Lyon. It's not going to be easy, but we're going to do everything to take the three points."

Madrid, then Lyon, Paris have big match after big match...
"It's difficult, because in four days, there are two high-intensity games in which we have to be at 100 per cent, because they have good players, quick players. They're a dangerous team, but we're going for the win. We want to come out on top to strengthen our hold on first place in the table."
