It was on 30 May: The first quadruple!

Five years ago to the day, Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Coupe de France after a 1-0 victory over Auxerre and secured the first ever quadruple in French football.

Several months after winning the Trophée des Champions, a couple of weeks after lifting the Coupe de la Ligue and a few days after being named French Champions, Laurent Blanc's side was determined as they travelled to the Stade de France to face Auxerre on Saturday 30 May 2015. With a clear objective in mind: win the Club's 9th Coupe de France title, a trophy that the team hadn't lifted for five years, and in doing so, secure the first ever national quadruple in French football. Although the task at hand seemed to stack the odds against Les Auxerrois, who were plying their trade in Ligue 2, the task was never going to be easy...

It was in fact AJA who secured the first real chance of the match, through Frédéric Sammaritano (14'). Taken aback, Les Rouge et Bleu got their game going but Edinson Cavani (17'), Blaise Matuidi (22'), Lucas (24') and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (31', 35') couldn't find a way to break the deadlock, and then Thiago Motta could only find the post (40'). Les Parisiens continued their assault on the Auxerre goal after the break and the Uruguayan international showed the way with a first chance (55'), and then a second (58'). The third would be the right one. Gregory van der Wiel crossed and the number 9 headed home beautifully into the back of Léon's net, with a 31st goal of the season in all competitions (0-1, 65'). Towards the end of the match, Les Bourguignons tried their luck but Livio Nabab missed the target with his effort (88').

It was therefore Paris Saint-Germain who were crowned champions, reigniting the club's love story with the most prestigious national competitions and earned their place in the history books of French football. "We have had a great season, explained Matuidi after the final whistle. It's something that is exceptional, it's what we wanted. We play for PSG for these kind of moments. We are going to savour it because it won't be like this every year." The French international was wrong, given that the club from the capital repeated the feat the following season (2017-2018).
