Idrissa Gueye: 'Honoured to wear this shirt'

New Paris Saint-Germain player Idrissa Gana Gueye gave his first official interview to PSG.FR shortly after signing his contract with the capital club. The Senegal international is delighted to have joined Les Rouge et Bleu for the next four seasons.

Idrissa, how does it feel to finally be a Paris Saint-Germain player?
"It's an honour and a great source of pride to be a Paris Saint-Germain player. Every player dreams of playing for a big club like this. I am very happy and, above all, honoured to wear this shirt."

What sort of player are you on the pitch?
"As everyone knows, I'm a defensive midfielder, a hardworker, there for the team and ready to make sacrifices to help the team. I'm always ready to give everything on the pitch: chase down opponents, defend and above all, I'm happy when I'm playing football, I was made for that, it's my life. I'm not scared of a battle and I don't pay too much attention to the stats. I just give everything for the shirt and my teammates to try and win."

What experiences from England will you now bring to Paris?
"I matured a lot in England. I also acquired a thirst for victory, for the battle and that will never leave me. I have come here to help the team win as many trophies as possible."

Paris has a number of world class players. What does it represent for you to be in this squad?
"They are great players that I'm used to watching on TV. Today I'm going to join them, play with them and it's a real pleasure. I'm going to learn a lot alongside these players and I'm going to continue to progress and try to do the maximum to live up to the expectations on the pitch and not disappoint."

You will return to the Parc des Princes, but this time as a Paris player...
"I can't wait to see the Parc on matchday and witness that passion. It's hard to explain, but I desperately want to experience it. It hasn't fully sunk in yet, but ever since I was a little kid I've dreamed of one day playing for a club like Paris Saint-Germain... the prospect of playing at the Parc is a dream come true..."
