Goal and assist charts: Mbappé still on top

The Paris Saint-Germain striker, who once again got on the scoresheet against Angers, remains not only Ligue 1's top scorer but also its top assist provider.

Weekend after weekend, Kylian Mbappé continues to break records. For the third week in a row, the Paris Saint-Germain striker retains top spot in the French league's goal and assist charts.

Since returning from the most recent international break, the World Cup winner has bagged a brace and three assists against Lorient, notched up a fine hat-trick and a further assist against Clermont and allowed himself the luxury of becoming the second-highest scorer in the history of Le Classique by finding the back of the net against Marseille. Finally, he opened the scoring against Angers on Wednesday, thereby taking his total up to seven goals and four assists in just four matches.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING?

With five games to go until the end of the season, Mbappé is just four short of the record number of assists in a Ligue 1 season, which is held by Angel Di María, with 18 assists in the 2015-16 campaign.

If the France international were to hold onto first place, he would finish as the league's top scorer for the fourth consecutive season. Just two players have managed to earn this title four times in a row in the history of French football: Carlos Bianchi, from 1976 to 1979, and Jean-Pierre Papin, from 1988 to 1992 (five consecutive wins).

For now, no player has ever been crowned top scorer and top assist provider in the same Ligue 1 season. If Paris's no. 7 were to pull it off, it would be an unprecedented achievement. And where there are records to be broken, Kylian Mbappé is never too far away...
