Everything you need to know before the start of Copa America!

The 46th edition of Copa America gets underway this weekend, and we’ve got all the information you need to follow our many Parisians taking part!

Where will the games take place?

This summer’s games will take place in Brazil across five cities; Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Salvador and São Paulo.

The tournament begins on June 14 and will run until the final on Sunday July 7.

 

What's the format of the competition?

Grouped into three groups of four, the teams will take part in the group stage from 14 to 24 June. Each team will be looking to take one of the eight available places for the quarter-finals for the top two teams of each group and the two best third placed finishers. Then, the knockout phase begins June 27, culminating in the final at the legendary Rio Maracanã on July 7.

Who are the favorites?

Hosts Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay have been many pundits’ tips for Copa America glory but Columbia, so impressive in 2015’s tournament where they finished 3rd could yet pose a threat.

Who are the current holders?

Chile are the current Copa America champions having won the 2015 competition on penalties against Argentina. The tournament four years ago set an encouraging precedent for Brazil in this summer’s tournament as ‘La Roja’ were also the hosts!
