A bit of history...

Act 35 between Brest and Paris Saint-Germain, the record largely favours  the club from the capital, who have come out as winners on 18 occasions, drawn 12 and only lost 4 matches.

Les Rouge et Bleu haven’t been beaten by Brest since 26 January 1985 (1-3 at Brest in the league), and go into this match on the back of 7 straight wins and 19 matches without defeat against the club from Brittany, a record that makes it into Les Parisiens’ top five.

At the Stade Francis-Le Blé, Les Parisiens have gone 10 matches without defeat (5 wins and 5 draws).

24 players have worn the colours of both clubs: Claude Barrabé, Daniel Bernard, Jean-Pierre Bosser, Bernard Bureau, Gilles Cardinet, Joël Cloarec, Patrick Colleter, Franck Dja Djédjé, Louis Floch, David Ginola, Vincent Guérin, Lionel Justier, Ahmed Kantari, Bernard Lama, Paul Le Guen, Yvon Leroux, Claude Makélélé, Tripy Makonda, Bandiougou Fadiga, Bernard Mendy, Granddi Ngoyi, William N'Jo Léa, Bernard Pardo and Jocelyn Rico. Gaétan Charbonnier, who spent the 2008-2009 season at Paris Saint-Germain never played for the first team and Sébastien Cibois, former goalkeeper who came through the ranks at the club, don’t feature on the list.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is  Paris Saint-Germain’s top scorer against Brest with 6 goals scored. Behind him in the rankings sit Dominique Rocheteau (4 goals) and Safet Susic (3 goals).

The Swedish striker is the only Parisien to have scored a hat-trick against Les Brestois, a feat achieved during a 5-2 victory in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France on 8 January 2014, in what was the last match between the two clubs in the competition.

Paris Saint-Germain had already  faced Les Bretons in the Coupe de France, with a win in the quarter finals in 1983 (2-0 in the first leg at the Parc des Princes, 1-2 in the return leg in Brittany).

With 28 goals scored, François M’Pelé is Paris Saint-Germain’s top scorer in the Coupe de France, ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pedro Miguel Pauleta (16 goals), Safet Susic (15), Edinson Cavani and Mustapha Dahleb (14) and Dominique Rocheteau (13).

The stakes...

The Coupe de France and Paris Saint-Germain have had a long love story over the past 50 years! The 13-times winners have won the most trophies in the competition, ahead of Marseille (10 titles).

Les Parisiens are the current holders and have been involved in the last six finals, winning five and losing just one.

This evening, the club will take part in its 240th encounter in the Coupe de France with a record of 170 wins, 28 draws and 41 defeats, a win ratio of over 70%, which is a record in France.

It’s also the club’s 46th appearance in the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France (in 51 seasons), where they have qualified on 35 occasions and been knocked out 10 times.

Note: a defeat on penalties statistically counts as a draw.

The Keys to the matCh...

Paris Saint-Germain goalscorers enjoy the Coupe de France, with at least one goal scored in their last 47 matches in the competition, since the final against Lille (0-1) on 14 May 2011.

Les Bretons have scored four own goals against Paris Saint-Germain: Yvon Leroux (on 20/03/1982), Michel Milojevic (on 17/05/1991), Ahmed Kantari (on 24/04/2011) and Bernard Mendy (on 21/12/2012). An amusing detail: Yvon Leroux, Ahmed Kantari and Bernard Mendy had all played for Paris Saint-Germain…

Angel Di Maria, who makes his return to the squad, could this evening pick up his 100th assist for the club and get one step closer to the club record held by Safet Susic (103, from 1982 until 1991).

Marquinhos could feature in his 310th match in Rouge et Bleu and equal the legendary Mustapha Dahleb, the 8th most capped player for Paris Saint-Germain.
