Everything on Paris Saint-Germain - Manchester United FC!

The history, what’s at stake and the keys to the match! Discover everything you need to know before kick off in the Matchday 1 UEFA Champions League group stage game between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, this Tuesday October 20 at 21:00 at the Parc des Princes.

A little bit of history...

It's the third competitive match between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United after the double confrontation in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League (a 0-2 win at Old Trafford on 12/02/2019 and a 1-3 loss at Parc des Princes on 06/03/2019 for the Rouge et Bleu).

The two teams had met just once before their first competitive match, in a friendly on July 30 2015 in the International Champions Cup, a match won by the Parisians 2-0 in Chicago, meaning the trophy was claimed after the game.

6 players have played for both clubs: David Beckham, Angel Di Maria, Gabriel Heinze, Ander Herrera, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ray Wilkins. Edinson Cavani, not in the United squad that has headed to Paris, hasn't yet played a competitive match for the Red Devils.

Paris are taking part in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League for the ninth consecutive season since returning to the competition in 2012. Only 5 European clubs can match this:  Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City.

Paris Saint-Germain will on Tuesday play their 116th UEFA Champions League match (63 wins, 22 draws and 30 defeats), and their 228th European match* (119 wins, 52 draws and 56 defeats).

What's at stake...

Paris Saint-Germain want to maintain their group stage record in the UEFA Champions League, having got through every season since 2012. In 48 group stage games, the record reads: 33 wins, 9 draws and only 6 defeats for the Parisians.

At the Parc des Princes, the capital club haven't lost in the group stage since 2012, with a record of 19 wins and 5 draws in 24 games.

The keys to the match...

The Parisian defence will need to be watertight, just like the Rouge et Bleu rearguard was last season at the Parc des Princes with 4 consecutive matches without conceding a goal, against Real Madrid (3-0), Club Brugge (1-0),  Galatasaray (4-0) and against Borussia Dortmund (2-0).

The last away scorer in Paris in the UEFA Champions League is a Manchester United player: the forward Marcus Rashford after a controversial penalty award in added time, and the goal meant elimination for Paris on March 6 2019  (final score 1-3).

The Parisians can also count on the attacking trio of Angel Di Maria (13 goals), Kylian Mbappé (13 goals) et de Neymar Jr (14 goals), who between them have scored 40 goals for the capital club in the UEFA Champions League.

Portuguese midfielder Danilo Pereira could become the 467th player to wear Paris Saint-Germain colours in a competitive match since 1970, and the 12th Portuguese after, in alphabetical order: Joaquim Agostinho, Joao Alves, Fernando Cruz, Gonçalo Guedes, Helder, Helder Marino, Hugo Leal, Humberto Coelho, Daniel Kenedy, Pedro Miguel Pauleta et Felipe Teixeira.
