Christophe Galtier: 'We need to finish the league well'

Christophe Galtier and his goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnaruma shared their reactions after the victory at Auxerre (1-2).

Christophe Galtier

"We obviously wanted to have an impressive start and we had a strong first 35 minutes, both in the pretty quick recovery of the ball, but also in the way we used it. We were very dangerous and we led 2-0 at the break. We knew that the third goal would be important and that if we'd had the chance to score it, the second half would certainly have been less complicated. But since we made a lot of technical mistakes at the beginning of the second half, we had a lot of wasteful play and that gave hope to Auxerre, who are fighting for survival. And from then on, it made the second half difficult. We had to put in a lot, a lot, a lot of effort. The fact that we didn't have many more chances in the second half was also due to Hugo Ekitike going off. He was very present on the front line and he was also well positioned offensively to free up Léo and Killian. When he went off, we didn't have the opportunity to win the ball back quickly, so we had to defend in the penalty area and it took a lot of courage and self-sacrifice. We have a six point lead over Lens, who are refusing to give up. We need to finish the league well both in terms of wins and performances. We will have a tough match because it's Strasbourg at home at the Meinau, with a huge atmosphere. And I think they are less under pressure in their push to stay up. We will have a tough match. But we will need to play well."

GIANLUIGI DONNAUMMA

"We are happy and proud this evening. We knew that it would be a difficult match, but we won it. We have taken a big step towards the title. It was a difficult match, we put everything into it defensively. We put in a very good performance and we are happy. Now, we are thinking about the next match. There are good teams and strong teams. You therefore have to give 200% if you want to win the league. It's the truth, it's a fact, we have done everything and unfortunately, we were unlucky in some matches, and we could have done better in others. But in the end, the most important thing is to win and take home the title. There are two finals that we will now have to play to win at least a point, but we want to win everything, we want to win the two matches. We are ready to do so. We are ready to celebrate with our supporters."
