Christophe Galtier: "The most important thing was to find the mental strength"

The Paris Saint-Germain coach was accompanied by Vitinha to talk to PSGTV after the precious victory over Lille on matchday 24 of Ligue 1 (4-3).

Christophe Galtier

"Yes, we can hold on to that. We had the mental strength at the start of the game for 25 minutes and we lost it for a long time. But we found it again. The most important thing was to find it. Of course it was an incredible game. Of course it's an emotional lift. You feel that the game can still turn around in an incredible way because we were completely exposed. We could have conceded a fourth goal which would have meant defeat. But the fact that we were able to come back at 3-3, you can feel the players' desire to go forward and push their opponents to the limit. And it was a foul and a free kick by Leo that turned the game around. So obviously it was important to stop this spiral because we need to get back to winning. Obviously, there is relief, but we have to be much more focused for the duration of the match. We can't have such a great start against a great Lille team, have such a great start by leading 2-0 and then lose focus so much...

We stopped a spiral. Obviously, when you stop the spiral, you hope for momentum. We know the games that await us. On the other hand, at the end of the match, there was a lot of self-sacrifice, a lot of commitment, like the outburst of joy on the goals, the third and fourth. So does it bring us together? Yes. Is it a reference point? No, because there was far too much complacency."

Vitinha

"I think that's the most important thing, I don't think we're happy with the game, we know we can do much better and we're going to. We have to wake up, do better than that, we know that everyone gives 100% in the matches and that's the most important thing, but after that there are other things to work on, tactically, technically, to accompany our ambition and our efforts and win all the matches and win them well. Not like today, but really win well.
The atmosphere? It's clear, everyone has seen it, it's incredible the atmosphere here at the Parc. We know it's difficult but we'd like it to be like this all the time, it makes things easier for us."
