Christophe Galtier: 'Remain united, that's the watchword'

The coach was accompanied by the evening's goalscorer to share their thoughts with PSGTV on Paris Saint-Germain's defeat at Monaco (3-1).

Christophe Galtier

"Our start to the match was catastrophic. After three minutes, you are already trailing after some poor defensive mistakes. We went two behind after defensive errors. Even though it was a difficult day in terms of preparation, with a line-up that I had prepared and that needed to be reworked twice during the morning, with very little time going into the match with fitness issues for certain players, and other players who couldn't come on during the match. So we were very quickly trailing. By changing our set-up, we managed to get back into the match. It seemed that we were getting back into it. We had two or three chances, we scored a good goal, even though Gigio preserved the suspense for a long time. But then of course there was frustration about the goal in injury time of the first half. There you go, with players that have little experience and who haven't played for such a long time… We are completely off-balance just a few seconds away from the break. I can't tell you that it would have changed things. But there is a difference between going in at 2-1 and going in at 3-1 with the current shape of the squad. It's also facing up to the reality of where we are at with our squad at the moment with the injuries, illness, youngsters starting, and players who haven't played for 9 or 10 months. Of course the task is complicated, but there you go, there is real disappointment. From my point of view, I understand the anger from our supporters. It's legitimate. We have a very difficult week, but we need to remain united. That is the watchword. We will see what happens on Tuesday. We will prepare, we won't do too much talking, we will work, prepare very seriously for the match, as we have prepared the others and we hope to be able to reintegrate both the players that were on the bench and others who weren't here."

"My goal? It’s true that I scored just before half-time, and then we tried to push on but we conceded another, and that knocked us back. We need to bounce back because we have lost a couple on the trot, so we need to get  back to winning ways and give our best in every match."
