Christophe Galtier: "It's up to us to keep the chasing pack at a distance"

The Paris Saint-Germain manager answered questions from PSG TV and the media ahead of the game against AC Ajaccio on Matchday 12 of Ligue 1, tomorrow evening at 21:00 CET at the Stade François Coty. Here are some extracts.

ON THE CHANGE OF SYSTEM

"It was a gamble that we took against Marseille, who are a well-organised and tough team to play against. It was Le Classique, so there was a lot at stake and a lot of pressure, and we'd been thinking about changing the system for some time. I felt that it was the right time to do so, but I'm not surprised by my players' ability to adapt. They were well-organised, hard-working and certainly up to the task. It was interesting to see this new shape against such a great team."

ON AJACCIO

"They're a well-organised team that won away to Marseille, and they're coming off the back of some good performances. The start to the season was a bit difficult for them because you always have to get used to playing in Ligue 1. The stadium will be full, and there'll be a fiery atmosphere because the fans are close to the pitch. We'll need to turn up, show a lot of desire and not look too far ahead to Tuesday's game against Haifa. We're top of the league, and there are some top-of-the-table clashes this weekend, so it's up to us to put in a complete performance and keep the chasing pack at a distance."

ON MARQUINHOS

"He's a very important player in the team. He's had to adjust to a role that is different to what he's done in the past. He's now very central on the pitch, in a three-man defence. He'd built up a few habits, but he had to change how he managed the space in behind him, and he's improved his reading of the game and his positioning. He's had some tough times, just like the whole team has, but he's playing a lot of games and putting in considerable amounts of effort. He's managing the space in behind him, meaning that he's making a lot of high-intensity runs, which he has to keep doing, but the amount of games is difficult for the players."

ON NEYMAR JR

"Ney came in at the start of pre-season, physically and mentally ready to have a great season. He's working hard and staying focused. When you put rhythm and intensity into training sessions, you have good games. As long as he's in good physical shape, he can deal with the heavier blows and keep playing match after match."

ON SQUAD ROTATION

"The games are coming thick and fast, so we may well rotate the squad. We want our players to be fresh, but it's a results business for us here in Paris. The game against Ajaccio won't be an easy one, but we'll play with a four-man defence on Friday."

ON EL CHADAILLE BITSHIABU AND WARREN ZAÏRE-EMERY

"El Chadaille has incredible potential. He's training with us, but he started slightly late because he had a muscle injury over the summer. He's focused, he's knocking on the door of the first team, he's working very hard, and he's committed, but there's such a high standard required and such an obligation to get results here that you need to have a bit of know-how and experience. He, just like Warren and all of the young players who are with us, are faced with stiff competition, but that competition gives them the chance to learn and to raise their game through the technical quality and the intensity of the sessions."
