Christophe Galtier: 'Go for qualification'

The Paris Saint-Germain coach gave his thoughts to the media ahead of Wednesday's Coupe de France Last 16 tie at Marseille.pre

CURRENT FORM

"We've shown a good attitude in recent games. It was more difficult against Toulouse, because we fell behind, but given the weekend's results , we got a good result. Everyone is in top form, little by little. It augurs well."

THE MATCH

"It's a knockout game, the players know that. They know what a Classique is. There are a lot of players with a lot of experience of a Classique. We have spoken about it a lot since the Toulouse game. It's a shame our fans can't go there. There will be a lot of them supporting us from their sofas. A Coupe game is special, we're preparing ourselves well. We're preparing the game with the squad we have available, and with a  specific gameplan."

MARSEILLE

"When I arrived in Paris, I knew we were going to play Marseille. Two games against them are coming up quickly. I put the fact I was born in Marseille out of my mind. I know what it means to be Paris Saint-Germain coach. I'm very focussed on preparing the game to go for qualification."

THE STATE OF THE SQUAD

"Renato Sanches isn't available for the trip to Marseille, he's out. Marco Verratti, Neymar and Sergio Ramos are available. Nordi Mukiele still hasn't trained with us, but he's progressing well. Presnel Kimpembe isn't far off getting back into the squad, he's back in full training. And Kylian Mbappé is out."

THE FIXTURE LIST

"It's an exciting period with a lot of big games to play. The fixtures are like that, and when you're Paris Saint-Germain, you have to get results. There's a lot of big games to play, in every competition, with knockout matches."

THE OPPONENTS

"Marseille press a lot, they hunt you down from everywhere. We'll have to cope with that. We have to have the ball at our feet, deal with their pressing. We have the squad to get the result we want."

THE PRESSURE OF A CLASSIQUE

"Experience helps you handle your emotions. We've already played these kinds of games, enough of them to avoid surprises. It's a game of 11 vs. 11, and we have to finish 11 against 11 on the pitch, and not get carried away with bad fouls or showing dissent. We have to keep a cool head. The idea isn't to be calm, but to have the clarity of thought so that each player plays to his strengths."
