Choupo-Moting: 'Proud to play for this club'

Before joining the Cameroon national team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations, Paris Saint-Germain attacker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting looked back at the capital club's title-winning Ligue 1 season...

Choupo, you joined Paris to win the title... and you did it! What does it represent to you?
"I am very proud of this title and to play for this club. It's an honour to champion. Even if the club has won it a lot in recent years, this will always be a very special trophy for me and I am very happy. We should have a little more respect for this achievement. Unfortunately, the recent defeats have tarnished it a little. But we are looking towards the future and we know that we had a very good season. We won 29 matches, have great stats, scoring over 100 goals. You have to keep that in mind, hold your head high and be proud to be champion."

On a personal note, what was your highlight of the season?
"In the Coupe de France against Dijon at the Parc des Princes. When the whole stadium chanted my name, it was really very touching, incredible to see the passion of the supporters. The atmosphere at the Parc is always special, I feel it and it's incredible. The match at home to Liverpool was also crazy for all Parisians. We won at home and it was a great performance. I always think winning at home creates a special bond."

How was it when Thomas Tuchel called you to come and play for Paris Saint-Germain?
"I know him since I played for him at Mainz and he was already a very good coach that knew how to analyse football and could improve a club with that. He did it at Mainz, Dortmund and now at Paris, the biggest club of his career. But I am not surprised that he became the coach here. I think he did a great job this season with all the stars here. Sometimes it's not easy and he did it very well. I was very happy when he called me and I was ready to come and very happy to be here."
