Blaise Matuidi: "An incredible atmosphere"

Ahead of the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, our PSG Legends tell us about their fondest memories of the big games and their connection with the fans. Blaise Matuidi, a Parisian from 2011 to 2017, gives us his perspective.

Blaise, what do you remember about the great Champions League matches you played for PSG?

"They always had an incredible atmosphere and great memories were made. Playing against some of the biggest clubs in Europe, in an electric atmosphere here at the Parc des Princes, those are moments that will remain unforgettable. Moments I dreamt of as a child. Playing on this pitch, in front of a packed stadium... They’re moments that leave a big impression on you. And as players, ones that you look forward to."

The fans are so important at times like these...

"Yes, of course. As soon as we warmed up, we had the feeling that it was going to be a special day. The stadium is already full for warm-ups during European Cup matches, so we felt that these were special occasions. A connection was created by the noise, it was extraordinary. There was something crazy going on with the fans. I remember scoring a goal against Barcelona and celebrating in front of the fans. There's a closeness with the fans that's amazing, and it's only on those European nights that you can have that kind of experience."

Do you have a particular memory of a moment of connection that sticks in your mind?

"That equalising goal against Barcelona was without doubt my greatest moment of connection with the fans. We were 2-1 down and I equalised at the end, and I celebrated by making a heart with my hands, thanking the fans because they were clearly in my heart."
