AS Monaco v Paris Saint-Germain: Match Preview

Here's everything you need to know about tonight's Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Louis II.

This evening Paris Saint-Germain return to league action after their hard-fought point in Naples in the UEFA Champions League. The game will be Les Rouge-et-Bleu’s thirteenth of the league season, and one in which they’ll be attempting to pick up their thirteenth win, against one of their most formidable rivals.

In recent years, Paris Saint-Germain has been a title-chasing rivalry with both clubs routinely finishing near the summit of the Ligue 1 table. The most recent ties have been fiercely contested and often unpredictable affairs. For an idea of what may happen on the pitch, check out the last five league matches between Paris SG and Monaco.

Outside of Ligue 1, Paris SG’s form has been more positive, with the club from Parc des Princes winning each of the last seven ties between the two teams. The last pairing game back in April of this year, when Paris registered Monaco’s worst ever defeat (1-7), a scoreline that awarded the victors the Ligue 1 title.

Form coming into this game is in stark contrast to encounters in previous years when Monaco and Paris-Saint Germain were going head-to-head for league titles. This season, whilst Les Rouge-et-Bleu are looking for their 13th win in a row, Monaco are without a win in 11 Ligue 1 games, securing four draws and seven losses. In addition, Thomas Tuchel leads his side into the encounter on the back of a record number of away trips without defeat; 13 since losing to Lyon on 21st January 2018.

Tonight's game could be a catalyst for both sides, as Monaco look to pick up a much needed league win to kick-start their campaign, and Paris Saint-Germain look to continue a perfect start to the season and bounce back from frustration mid-week.
