Ander Herrera: 'An extraordinary feeling'

Hear what the new Paris Saint-Germain midfielder had to say after putting pen to paper with the capital club.

Ander, how did your move to Paris come about?
"My agent called to tell me I had the chance to play for the biggest club in France. Paris Saint-Germain is a team that is continuing to improve, and which plays to win all the trophies possible. As soon as I got the call, I knew I wanted to come. I really wanted to join Paris and wear their colours. I know my decision to come here is the right one. It was time for me to have a new challenge. Things went very quickly. Everyone at the club has been incredible with me, I felt that they really wanted me. They really made me feel I was welcome here. The club has a great history and I'm happy to be able to write some new chapters. It's an extraordinary feeling to join this club. I also love the city. Paris is the most beautiful city in the world. We've come here on holiday several times. Now, we have the opportunity to live here and I can play for this big club...it's fantastic."

You bring with you a lot of experience, especially in European competition. What qualities will you add to the Paris Saint-Germain midfield?
"I'm someone who plays for the team. Football is above all a collective sport, and I never want to forget that. I'm going to work hard, try to pass on my experience to the youngsters in the team, even if they're already very good. I want to be exemplary, give everything for the club and this team so that we can achieve all our goals. I can't promise to score a certain number of goals or win a certain number of matches...but I can guarantee I'll give my all on and off the pitch. The only way to succeed is to keep an open spirit and always want to learn, that will be my case. There is a talented coach and talented players, and I'm going to try and learn as much as possible from them every day."

Last season, you played the Champions League Last 16 tie against Paris Saint-Germain. What do you remember of that?
"What made the biggest impression on me was the fans. The Paris fans were incredible. They sang and pushed their team throughout the whole game. That really made an impact on me. I also remember that the team was able to adapt to all the different systems the coach put in place throughout the season. It's a real team quality that I like. A new season often brings changes, but there is a very solid base at this club and I know we're going to be able to achieve great things."

Before your arrival, did you talk to your compatriot Juan Bernat or with Angel Di Maria, who you played with in England?
"I haven't had at the chance yet, but at Manchester United, Zlatan Ibrahimovic talked a lot to me about Paris Saint-Germain. He only said good things! He said the club was growing every season. You see from the outside that the club is progressing and has very big ambitions."

What do you think of the infrastructure?
"The Parc des Princes is magnificent, and the dressing room is incredible, perfect for optimal pre-match preparation. I don't know where my place will be, but I'll start by respecting everyone's place."
