An 8th star in 8 moments

If a season is often considered a marathon over 38 rounds, our Paris Saint-Germain squad have shown their sprinting class is crossing the finish line after just 31 matches! Since it began in mid-August, Paris have set a cracking pace at the front of the pack in this 2018-19 season. Here are eight highlights to celebrate an eighth Ligue 1 title for the capital club…

Act I: Paris Saint-Germain vs Caen (3-0, Week 1, 12 August 2018) / Ney scores first in 3-goal win: Paris set the tone!
Ten minutes is all it took for Paris Saint-Germain to land the first blow of the season. Neymar Jr fired home and brought the Auteuil stand to its feet. 80 minutes later and the final whistle confirmed a 3-0 victory for Les Rouge et Bleu. Eight months later and the proof is in the statistics: Paris Saint-Germain average 3.5 goals per match at the Parc des Princes in Ligue 1. Les Rouge et Bleu were on their way…

Act II: Nice vs Paris Saint-Germain (0-3, Week 8, 29 September 2018) / Signed Ney
The skies over Paris Saint-Germain were a clear Côte d’Azur blue as the capital club visited the Allianz Riviera as Neymar Jr netted the fifth brace of his Parisian career with a wonderful curling effort, a side-foot finish from an Mbappé assist. Paris Saint-Germain had reached cruising altitude with eight wins from eight and Lille already eight points adrift…

Act III: Paris Saint-Germain vs Lyon (5-0, Week 9, 7 October 2018): Mbappé – Connect 4!
Change his name from Kylian to Demolition Man! Scoring an eight-minute hat-trick is one thing, scoring four in less than 13 minutes is even better – especially when your opponent is Lyon! Stunned by no-less than four Mbappé goals, Les Gones were already 13 points behind the capital club. Paris became the first team in history to win their first nine matches of the season (32 goals scored).

Act IV: Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain (0-4, Week 13, 11 November 2018): Cavani, King of the Principality
For this match, Edi Cavani returned from injury… but it looked like he’d never been away! El Matador netted a predatory hat-trick in less than 50 minutes! At the end of 90 minutes, Paris had equalled the club’s all-time record of 13 consecutive Ligue 1 victories (like in 2015, but over two seasons that year).

Act V: Bordeaux vs Paris Saint-Germain (2-2, Week 15, 2 December 2018): First points dropped… after 15 games
Neymar Jr scored, Mbappé too. It looked like another typical day at the office for Paris. But their stunning start to the campaign was slowed at the Matmut Atlantique stadium, when Bordeaux equalised late on. For the first time this season, the defending champions dropped two points, a third of the way through the season. But not before setting a new French record of 14 consecutive wins in a single season…

Act VI: Paris Saint-Germain vs Guingamp (9-0, Week 21, 19 January 2019): A record win at the Parc
As the saying goes, revenge is a dish best served cold. Just ten days after their elimination at the hands of Guingamp in the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final (1-2), Les Rouge et Bleu extracted their revenge in spectacular fashion. Neymar Jr (2 goals, 1 assist), Cavani (3 goals, 2 assists), Mbappé (3 goals, 1 assist) and Thomas Meunier (1 goal) exploded the EAG backline. The Parc was on cloud nine as their heroes recorded their biggest home win!

Act VII: Paris Saint-Germain vs Marseille (3-1, Week 29, 17 March 2019): A devil named Angel
An absolute Classique! First of all, Mbappé netted his 26th goal of the campaign to cement his place as Ligue 1 top scorer after he was set up by Angel Di Maria. Marseille were reminded again that Angel is not of this world! He proved it again with two clinical and inspirational left-footed goals. 15 wins out of 15 at home for Paris Saint-Germain and 10/10 for the devilish Angel. Paris’ 800th Ligue 1 success had a distinctly Argentinian accent.

Act VIII: Paris Saint-Germain vs Monaco (Week 33, 21 April 2019): Crowned after 32 matches!

On this Easter Sunday, just before 21:00, the Parc will have the opportunity to offer a standing ovation to the capital club players, frenshly crowned champions after LOSC's scoreless draw with Toulouse! Just like last year, Les Rouge et Bleu celebrate the title with the visit of AS Monaco at the end of Week 33 of the campaign. A year ago, Paris were walking on water with a 7-1 win. Tonight, irrespective of the result, it's a partry at the Parc des Princes!
