All you need to know: Stade Brestois 29 - Paris Saint-Germain

Check out the background to Saturday's league game and what's at stake in Brittany.

A little history...

Brest are back in the top flight for the first time in five seasons, and the two teams have played each other only once in the intervening years: a Coupe de France Round of 64 tie on 8 January, 2014, that Paris won 5-2 in Brittany.

In 33 meetings, the capital club has won 17 times, and lost just four times. Brest's last defeat of Paris Saint-Germain dates back to 26 January 1985 when they registered a 3-1 home win, meaning Paris have not lost in 17 encounters, which is among the club's top five best unbeaten runs.

Twenty-four players have featured for both teams: Claude Barrabé, Daniel Bernard, Jean-Pierre Bosser, Bernard Bureau, Gilles Cardinet, Joël Cloarec, Patrick Colleter, Franck Dja Djedje, Louis Floch, David Ginola, Vincent Guérin, Lionel Justier, Ahmed Kantari, Bernard Lama, Paul Le Guen, Yvon Leroux, Claude Makelele, Tripy Makonda, Bernard Mendy, Granddi Ngoyi, William N'Jo Léa, Bernard Pardo, Jocelyn Rico and Laurent Robert. N.B. Gaëtan Charbonnier did not play for the Paris Saint-Germain first team so does not feature in this list.

Five players who played for Brest were among those who starred for PSG in the 90's: Bernard Lama, Patrick Colleter, Paul Le Guen, Vincent Guérin and David Ginola.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic leads the club records in goals against Brest with six. He's ahead of Dominique Rocheteau (4 goals) and Safet Susic (3 goals).

The stakes...

After their defeat at Dijon (2-1), the Parisians will want to reinforce their position at the top of the table before the international break.

Paris Saint-Germain are yet to draw a competitive game this season, winning 14 and losing three of their 17 matches, an unprecedented stat in club history.

Despite a number of injured players, the Parisians will be looking to extend an incredible record away from home: Paris Saint-Germain have scored at least once in every away game since a goalless draw at Caen on 19 May 2018, a series of 25 matches. They are closing in on the French record held by Sedan at 32 matches set between 1957 and 1959.

The keys to the match...

Edinson Cavani should start up front as he seeks to reach the 200-goal milestone for Paris Saint-Germain in competitive games - he's currently five short. The Uruguay international has never scored against Brest, and they are the only current L1 side he is yet to find the net against.
