All you need to know: RB Leipzig - Paris Saint-Germain!

The stats and the stakes ahead of Wednesday's UEFA Champions League encounter.

A little history...

RB Leipzig - Paris Saint-Germain, Act 3! The two teams have met twice before: in a friendly on 18 July 2014 with the German side winning 4-2 at home, and then in last season's semi-final in Lisbon that ended in a 3-0 Paris win.

For Paris, it's their ninth successive group-stage campaign since returning to the competition in 2012. Only five clubs can match that: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, FC Barcelonea, Juventus and Manchester City.

Paris Saint-Germain are playing their 118th UEFA Champions League fixture (64 wins, 22 draws, 31 defeats). It is the Parisians' 229th* European game: 120 wins, 52 draws, 57 defeats.

It'll be the 20th time Paris Saint-Germain face German opposition in European competition: Bayern Munich (9 matches), Borussia Dortmund (4 matches), VFL Wolsfsburg (2 matches), Bayer Leverkusen (2 matches) Schalke 04 (1 match) and RB Leipzig (1 match). The capital club's record is 11 wins, 2 draws and just 6 losses in 19 official games.

In Germany, the Parisians have played eight times, winning three and losing four.

Only two players have played for both clubs: Jean-Kévin Augustin and Christopher Nkunku.

The stakes...

Paris Saint-Germain have been performing well away from home of late and are unbeaten in six UEFA Champions League games on their travels: Napoli 1-1, Red Star Belgrade 4-1, Galatasaray 1-0, Club Brugge 5-0, Real Madrid 2-2, and Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0.

The Rouge-et-Bleu are yet to draw in 11 competitive games in 2020/21: It's the third-longest such run since the start of a season after 2018/19 (13 matches) and 2019/20 (19 matches).

Keys to the game...

Paris Saint-Germain have an iron-clad defence this season with seven clean sheets in their 11 competitive fixtures to date.

Marquinhos comes up against the side he scored against in Lisbon on 18 August. With six Champions League goals, Marquinhos is the club's highest-scoring defender in the competition.

Presnel Kimpembe could make his 150th competitive appearance for the club.
