A bit of history…

It’s the 101st game between Paris Saint-Germain and Lyon, just two clubs have played against the Rouge et Bleu more times: Bordeaux (107) and Monaco (104). The Parisians lead the head to head fixture having won 42 times, drawn 28 and lost 30.

Lyon will face Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes for the 45th time. Only four clubs have played there more: Bordeaux (54), Marseille (50), Nantes (49) and Monaco (48).

26 players have played for both sides: Hatem Ben Arfa, Milan Bisevac, Mathieu Bodmer, Luc Borrelli, François Brisson, Jérémy Clément, Grégory Coupet, James Debbah, Vikash Dhorasoo, Jean Djorkaeff, Raymond Domenech, Fabrice Fiorèse, Pierre-Alain Frau, Laurent Fournier, Franck Gava, Ludovic Giuly, Pascal Havet, David Hellebuyck, Christophe Jallet, Gérard Lanthier, Patrice Loko, Peguy Luyindula, Florian Maurice, Bruno Ngotty, Jean-Luc Sassus and Daniel Xuereb. Moussa Dembélé doesn’t feature on the list. He spent time in the Paris Saint-Germain academy but never played for the first team.

Paris Saint-Germain’s top scorer against Lyon is Edinson Cavani with nine goals. Kylian Mbappé trails him on eight goals whereas Zlatan Ibrahimovic has seven and Mustapha Dallab scored six.

What’s at stake…

A top of the table clash against Lyon who sit in fourth place in Ligue 1 three points behind the club from the capital.

The Parisians are on a run of five straight games without losing and three wins in a row against Manchester United (3-1), Montpellier (3-1) and Basaksehir Istanbul (5-1). They will want to end the year on another winning run.

The key talking points…

The Parisian strikers love playing against Lyon having scored 154 goals against the Gones. Only one club have conceded more than Lyon: Saint-Etienne who have conceded 157 goals.

Neymar Jr has often been decisive in the past few weeks: the Brazil international has scored seven goals in his last seven games for the Rouge et Bleu.

Paris Saint-Germain will be able to count on Angel Di Maria who’s scored 49 Ligue 1 goals and could reach the 50 league goal mark tonight. A landmark that only 11 Parisians have reached.

Kylian Mbappé has scored 74 goals for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 and could enter the top five goalscorers in the club’s history. Only Edinson Cavani (138), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (113), Mustapha Dahleb (85), Dominique Rocheteau (83) and Pedro Miguel Pauleta (76) have scored more goals than Mbappé.
