All you need to know: Lille - Paris!

The stakes, stats and a spot of history ahead of the kick-off of Matchday 16 of Ligue 1 2020-2021, between LOSC and Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday 20 December at 9pm.

A little history...

It's the duo's 93rd competitive meeting, with Les Lillois being a bit of a bogey team for Les Parisiens for so long, before the tides have changed slightly in recent years with 38 victories, 24 draws and 30 defeats.

It's against Lille on 12 June 1971 that Paris Saint-Germain won their first official title, the National (former Ligue 2) with a 4-2 victory at the Stade Jean Bouin.

Four of Paris-Saint-Germain's five fastest goals in the top flight have been scored against Lille: Maxwell at the Parc des Princes (26th second on 25 April 2015), Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the North (27th second on 2 September 2012), Nordine Kourichi's own goal (45th second on 22 October 1983) and Safet Susic against Lille (48th second on 20 October 1990), with the last two being at the Parc des Princes.

27 players have played for the two clubs: Jocelyn Angloma, Mathieu Bodmer, François Brisson, Bernard Bureau, Yohan Cabaye, Aliou Cissé, Lucas Digne, Oumar Dieng, Pierre Dréossi, Pierre-Alain Frau, Idrissa Gueye, Jonathan Ikoné, Mickaël Landreau, Bernard Lama, Christophe Landrin, Edvin Murati, Pascal Nouma, Bernard Pardo, Christian Perez, Stéphane Pichot, Jacky Planchard, Thierry Rabat, Jocelyn Rico, David Rozehnal, Younousse Sankharé, Amara Simba and Timothy Weah. Note: Mike Maignan and Boubakary Soumaré didn't play an official match for Paris Saint-Germain.

Dominique Rocheteau Paris Saint-Germain's top scorer against Lille, with 8 goals scored. Behind him sit Safet Susic (7 goals), Edinson Cavani and Lucas (5) then Jean-Claude Bras, Neymar Jr and Pedro Miguel Pauleta (4).

With 124 goals conceded against Paris Saint-Germain, Lille are in the club's top 10 behind Saint-Etienne (157 goals), Lyon (154 goals), Lens (146 goals), Bordeaux, Marseille and Nantes (141 goals), Bastia (134 goals), Metz (133 goals) and Sochaux (127 goals).

The stakes...

If Paris Saint-Germain come out on top against Lille, they can still end 2020 in the top seat of Ligue 1.

Les Parisiens' record in Lille is rather positive since 2012, with 7 wins, one draw and just one defeat in their last 9 official matches. Les Rouge et Bleu's only defeat against Les Dogues dates back to 14 April 2019: with a 1-5 defeat on 14 April 2019 in the league - the club from the Capital hadn't lost by such a large margin since 2011. Les Parisiens hadn't conceded 5 goals in the league since 2 December 2000 (1-5 defeat at Sedan) and hadn't lost by four goals since 27 April 2010 (0-4 defeat in Grenoble).

The Paris strikers are also more prolific away from home in the league: during the last 39 matches since the 0-0 draw in Ligue 1 at Caen on 19 May 2018, they have scored at least one goal in every match, except for the defeat at the start of the season against Lens (0-1 on 10/09/2020).

The keys to the match...

Angel Di Maria, who has scored on 49 occasions in Ligue 1, could hit the symbolic 50 goal mark in the top flight. Only 11 players in the history of the club have scored 50 goals or more in the league.

Mbappé

Kylian Mbappé has scored 75 goals for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1 and is just one goal off of making it into the club's top five goalscorers. The striker sits behind Edinson Cavani (138 goals), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (113 goals), Mustapha Dahleb (85 goals), Dominique Rocheteau (83 goals) and Pedro Miguel Pauleta (76 goals).

The Paris Saint-Germain number 7 has scored 6 goals in his last four away trips with Les Rouge et Bleu in Ligue 1, at Nîmes (4-0, a brace), at Nantes (3-0), at Monaco (2-3, a brace) and at Montpellier (3-1).
