All you need to know about PSG v. Nantes

The history, what's at stake and the keys to the match! Find out all you need to know before the game on Matchday 14 of the 2021-2022 Ligue 1 season between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes at the Parc des Princes.

A BIT OF A HISTORY...

This is the 101st competitive fixture between the two teams, with only three clubs having crossed paths with the Parisians more often than Les Canaris: Bordeaux (109 matches), Monaco (106 matches) and Lyon (103 matches). Nantes will today be joining Marseille on 101 matches.

The head-to-head record is largely in favour of Paris Saint-Germain, with 48 wins, 23 draws and 29 losses. In the last 27 competitive fixtures between the two teams since October 2004, Les Rouge et Bleu have only been beaten on two occasions – a 3-2 defeat in Nantes on 17th April 2019 and a 2-1 loss in the last meeting at the Parc des Princes on 14th March this year – with 24 wins and two draws alongside them.

With 48 defeats for Les Canaris in competitive matches against Les Rouge et Bleu, only one club holds a worse record: Saint-Etienne, who have lost 49 times and could see their record equalled today.

Nantes will also be playing their 51st competitive game against the Parisians at the Parc des Princes. Only Bordeaux (54 matches) and Marseille (50) have reached the symbolic milestone of 50 games played at PSG's home ground.

To this day, Nantes remain the team that has lost the most matches in a row against the Parisians, with 17 consecutive defeats in competitive fixtures from 2007 to 2019.

28 players have worn the shirts of both clubs: Jérôme Alonzo, Sylvain Armand, Claude Arribas, Jean-Hugues Ateba, Jean-Kevin Augustin, William Ayache, Michel Bibard, Lorik Cana, Bruno Carotti, Dominique Casagrande, Benoit Cauet, Eric Cubilier, Xavier Gravelaine, Vahid Halilhodzic, Antoine Kombouaré, Mickaël Landreau, Nicolas Laspalles, Paul Le Guen, Yvon le Roux, Patrice Loko, Claude Lowitz, Claude Makelele, Granddi N’Goyi, Nicolas Ouédec, Fabrice Pancrate, Fabrice Poullain, Alioune Touré and Mario Yepes.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani are Paris Saint-Germain's top scorers against Nantes, with nine goals scored each. They sit ahead of Pedro Miguel Pauleta (six goals).

Three former PSG players have managed Nantes in the last three years: Vahid Halilhodzic, Raymond Domenech and Antoine Kombouaré.

WHAT'S AT STAKE...

The Parisians will be looking to continue their excellent start to the league season (11 wins, one draw and one loss from 13 games), as they sit two points ahead of second-placed Lens.

The capital club are on a run of ten straight wins in competitive fixtures at the Parc des Princes since the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on 28th April, as well as being on a nine-game winning streak in Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes since the 1-0 defeat to Lille on 3rd April.

THE KEYS TO THE MATCH...

PSG's goalscorers have a liking for Nantes, having netted 142 times against them! In that respect, Les Canaris are behind only Saint-Etienne (161 goals), Lyon (160), Lens (148), Bordeaux and Marseille (145 goals each).

The capital club's players are often clinical against Les Canaris, with at least one goal scored in the last 23 clashes between the two teams since the 0-0 draw at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Ligue 1 on 25th February 2006 – an ongoing run and a record for Paris Saint-Germain, who sit alongside Saint-Etienne (23 matches) and ahead of Bordeaux (22) in that respect.

That's a promising sign for Kylian Mbappé, who got on the scoresheet five times with Les Bleus last week and is fast approaching 100 goals in Ligue 1 since his arrival in the capital, having scored 97 league goals for the club. Only two of Paris Saint-Germain's goalscorers have reached the symbolic milestone of 100 goals in the top flight: Edinson Cavani (138 goals) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (113 goals).
