All you need to know about Atalanta BC - Paris Saint-Germain!

Find out all you need to know before the kick-off in the quarter final of the UEFA Champions League between Paris Saint-Germain and Atalanta, on Wednesday 12 August at 9pm at the Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica in Lisbon.

A little history...

Atalanta - Paris Saint-Germain, act 1! The two sides have never played a competitive or friendly match, and it will therefore be an incredible first in Lisbon.

Only two players have worn the colours of both clubs: defenders Boukary Dramé and Mario Yepes.

On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain will take part in the club's 113th UEFA Champions League fixture, with a record of 61 wins, 22 draws and 29 defeats.

Les Parisiens will also play their 225th European encounter* (117 wins, 52 draws and 54 defeats). Les Rouge et Bleu beat Olympique de Marseille's tally (224 matches) during their last European outing against Borussia Dortmund (2-0).

The stakes...

Paris Saint-Germain are still in the running for a historic quintuple after winning the Trophée des Champions, Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue. The club from the Capital is the only side that could win all of the competitions that it has been involved in, as Bayern Munich, despite having won the Bundesliga and the German domestic cup, lost at the start of the season in the German Super Cup (0-2 against Borussia Dortmund on 03/08/2019).

Paris will be playing in the club's 12th European quarter final and go into the match with a balanced record (5 wins and 6 defeats).

Atalanta will become the fifth Italian opposition to have faced Paris Saint-Germain in Europe, after Juventus (8 matches), Napoli (4 matches), AC Milan (4 matches) and Parma (2 matches). Les Parisiens' record currently sits at 2 wins, 7 draws and 9 defeats in 18 competitive encounters.

Les Rouge et Bleu will also be looking to continue their excellent run in the UEFA Champions League, with at least one goal scored in their last 32 matches, since they lost 0-1 to Manchester City on 12 April 2016 (0-1).

The keys to success...

Paris Saint-Germain will be able to count on their incredible defensive record in Europe this season, with just four goals conceded. No other side still in the running boasts a better record in the UEFA Champions League in the 2019-2020 campaign, with Les Rouge et Bleu leading Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City (6 goals conceded).

Neymar Jr will be one of the main attacking threats for Les Rouge et Bleu: the Brazilian forward has scored at least one goal in his last 3 European matches for Paris Saint-Germain, against Galatasaray (5-0) in the final match of the group stage and in the two legs against Borussia Dortmund in the Round of 16 (1-2, 2-0).

Paris Saint-Germain should also be able to look to their defender-cum-striker Juan Bernat, who has scored 4 goals in the UEFA Champions League in the 15 matches played over 2 seasons. Comparatively, the Spanish defender has only scored one goal in Ligue 1 since arriving in Paris in 2018, with a total of 5 goals scored in all competitions for the club.

The club from the Capital will also have the opportunity to get one step closer to their 400th goal in European competitions: going into the match, Paris Saint-Germain have scored 396 goals (225 in the UEFA Champions League, 66 in the Cup Winners Cup, 103 in the UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League and 2 in the Super Cup).

*These figures include the Super Cup but not the Intertoto Cup.
