Act 10: Manchester United

When Paris Saint-Germain plays host to Manchester United in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League Last 16 second leg, it will be the tenth time they have welcomed an English club to the Parc des Princes. We take a look back at the first nine...

Act 1, 29 March 1994, Cup Winners' Cup semi-final first leg: Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Arsenal
The Parc des Princes was packed to capacity and expectant, but after a good start, David Ginola & Co. saw the Gunners seize the initiative. Bernard Lama could not keep out Ian Wright's close-range header from Paul Davis' free-kick as the visitors went in front (0-1, 35'). Paris upped the tempo in the second half, and Valdo headed home a Ginola corner at the near post to level (1-1, 50') to give the capital club hope ahead of the second leg, but they went down 1-0 at Highbury.

Act 2, 10 April 1997, Cup Winners' Cup semi-final first leg: Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 Liverpool
The Rouge et Bleu quickly opened the scoring when Leonardo scored from close range after Benoît Cauet's shot had been blocked (1-0, 11'). Cauet then did the same after Jérôme Leroy's cross had fallen into his path (2-0, 42') before Leroy wrapped things up with his first goal for the club (3-0, 84'). It was a crucial strike as Liverpool won the second leg 2-0.

Act 3, 14 September 2004, UEFA Champions League group stage, Matchday 1: Paris Saint-Germain 0-3 Chelsea
John Terry gave Jose Mourinho's men the lead (0-1, 29') before Didier Drogba latched onto a Mateja Kezman shot and fired home a second just before the break (0-2, 45+2'). The Ivorian made it three with a free-kick (0-3, 76') to make it a miserable return to the competition for the Parisians.

Act 4, 22 April 2014, UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg: Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 Chelsea
Ten years later, the two sides met again in the French capital, though this time with a very different outcome. Ezequiel Lavezzi's superb half-volley gave the hosts the lead (1-0, 4') only for Eden Hazard to level from the spot (1-1, 27'). A Lavezzi free-kick that was deflected in by David Luiz restored Paris' lead (2-1, 61') before Javier Pastore's delightful shuffle saw him go past three opponents and score from a tight angle in added time (3-1, 90+3'). The win wasn't enough though as Paris were knocked out after losing the second leg 2-0.

Act 5, 17 February 2015, UEFA Champions League Last 16 first leg: Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Chelsea
A year later, the Blues went ahead against the run of play thanks to Branislav Ivanovic's header (0-1, 36'). Edinson Cavani's powerful header levelled things up (1-1, 54'), but try as they might, the Rouge et Bleu were unable to find a way past Thibaut Courtois, who made a tremendous double save in added time. Paris still progressed, despite going down to ten men in the second leg, producing a heroic performance in a 2-2 draw after extra-time.

Acte 6, 16 February 2016, UEFA Champions League Last 16 first leg: Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Chelsea
Paris met Chelsea again with visiting goalkeeper Courtois in great form once more. The game sparked into life before the break: Zlatan Ibrahimovic's free-kick was deflected into his own goal by Jon Obi Mikel (1-0, 39') only for the Nigeria international midfielder to make amends by heading home the equaliser with seconds left in the opening half (1-1, 45+1'). Edinson Cavani capitalised on Paris pressure by firing home a second from a ball from Angel Di Maria (2-1, 78') with the Parisians winning by the same scoreline three weeks later to secure their place in the last eight.

Act 7, 6 April 2016, UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg: Paris Saint-Germain 2-2 Manchester City
Having knocked out Chelsea in the previous round, Laurent Blanc's side then came up against Manchester City. After Ibrahimovic had missed a penalty, Kevin De Bruyne fired past Kevin Trapp to put the visitors in the driving seat (0-1, 38'). Fernando's poor touch allowed Ibrahimovic to equalise (1-1, 41'), and the hosts went ahead when Joe Hart failed to deal with a corner, and Adrien Rabiot stabbed the ball into the empty net (2-1, 59'). Fernandinho equalised 18 minutes from time (2-2, 72') and City won the second leg 1-0 to go through.

Act 8, 13 September 2018, UEFA Champions League group stage, Matchday 1: Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Arsenal
Unai Emery's team made one heck of a start to the game! There were just 42 seconds on the clock when Cavani headed home a Serge Aurier cross (1-0, 1'). Alphonse Areola looked to have saved the day when he kept out an Alex Iwobi shot, but Alexis Sanchez pounced on the loose ball to level (1-1, 77') as Paris were left to rue a host of missed chances.

Act 9, 28 November 2018, UEFA Champions League group stage, Matchday 5: Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Liverpool
Thomas Tuchel's men knew only a win would keep them in the running to reach the knockout stages, and they ensured they got one. Juan Bernat's right-foot shot beat Alisson for the opening goal (1-0, 13') before Neymar Jr doubled the lead, firing home after Cavani's shot had been blocked (2-0, 37'). James Milner's penalty reduced the visitors' arrears just before the break, but Paris came through.
