A look back at the Parisians' World Cup quarter-finals

Several Paris Saint-Germain players were involved in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar with their respective national teams. Here's a look back at this round, and the semi-final schedule.

KYLIAN MBAPPÉ - FRANCE

In a high-profile quarter-final clash with England, Kylian Mbappé's Les Bleus won 2-1 at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor. Aurelien Tchouameni opened the scoring with a crisp, long-range shot past Pickford, before England captain Harry Kane equalised from the penalty spot against his club partner Hugo Lloris. Olivier Giroud headed Antoine Griezmann's cross into the net to give France the lead. Mbappé played the whole match, often in the announced duel with Kyle Walker. Les Bleues' number 10 will be joined in the semi-final by his teammate Achraf Hakimi, in a right or left flank that will undoubtedly be lively, in this unprecedented France-Morocco match, for a place in the 2022 World Cup final.

ACHRAF HAKIMI - morocco

A tremendous performance for Achraf Hakimi's Morocco led them to becoming the first African country to reach the last four of a World Cup. Against Vitinha's Portugal, the Atlas Lions put in a fine and solid performance, winning by the narrowest of margins, 1-0. Morocco have only conceded one goal since the beginning of the competition, against Canada on the third matchday of the group stage, and will have to do so again, against Les Bleus with a certain Kylian Mbappé, this Wednesday 14 December, still at the Al Bayt Stadium, at 20:00 French time.

LIONEL MESSI - ARGENTINa

Leo Messi's Argentina made it through to the semi-finals of the World Cup after a thrilling match against the Netherlands. The two nations drew 2-2 at the end of normal time, and after 30 minutes of extra time, penalties were needed to decide the match. Messi had already scored a penalty during the match, allowing the Albiceleste to take the lead, before being caught in the very last seconds of the game. The Parisian number 30 also scored his penalty during the shoot-out, before Lautaro Martinez scored the decisive one to send Argentina into the last four. They will face Croatia, who beat Brazil.

NEYMAR JR / MARQUINHOS - BRazIL

A cruel outcome for the Seleção and our Brazilians who lost on penalties to the finalists of the last World Cup. After 90 minutes of high intensity, but without a goal, the Brazilians finally took the lead thanks to a brilliant move by Neymar Jr, who started and finished a beautiful move. The Croatians finally found the resources to push the Brazilians to a penalty shoot-out, which would prove fatal for the Auriverde.

the PARISIaNS shine at the world cup

While the club is sure to have at least one representative in the World Cup final on 18 December (Mbappé, Hakimi, Messi), Paris Saint-Germain is the club that also provided the most scorers in this 2022 competition!

12 goals were scored by players from the club from the capital, 5 by Kylian Mbappé, 4 by Leo Messi, 2 by Neymar Jr and 1 by Carlos Soler, which is 4 goals more than FC Barcelona (8).

To top it all off, the Parisians involved in the World Cup have won the Man of the Match award on eight occasions, with Messi's latest against the Netherlands.
