A final match to shine: Paris have done it before!

Although Les Parisiens sit one point behind Les Lillois heading into the final match of the season, history reminds us that Les Rouge et Bleu have already proven in the past that they can find what's needed to turn things around in the final sprint...

On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain travel to Brest with the hope of taking home another league title, a 10th since the club was created in 1970. With just one point separating Les Parisiens and Les Lillois, the club from the capital will take part in their 13th decisive final game of the season, with 7 of them falling in their favour. A look back at these unforgettable final matches for the players and fans of Paris Saint-Germain.

Act 1

2 May 1984, Paris Saint-Germain - Toulouse, Matchday 38
On the same number of points, the two sides were only separated by one goal on goal difference - in Les Rouge et Bleu's favour - and so the players from the capital knew that they couldn't afford to lose to Toulouse at the Parc des Princes if they were to qualify for the UEFA Cup. Mission accomplished, with a 1-0 victory and a goal for Safet Susic.

ACT 2

25 April 1986, Paris Saint-Germain - Bastia, Matchday 38
In first place in the league with a two point lead on Nantes and a better goal difference (+5) over Les Canaris, Paris Saint-Germain were all but confirmed as champions as they faced a Bastia side that had already been relegated to the second division. Les Parisiens won the match 3-1 and in doing so secured their first league title after a fifty year wait.

Act 3

4 June 1988, Le Havre - Paris Saint-Germain, Matchday 38
Paris Saint-Germain had control of their own destiny: with the club sitting in 17th place in the league, a victory in Normandy would have been enough to guarantee safety. 14 coaches of Paris supporters made the journey to the north coast. Thankfully, Paris won by the smallest of margins thanks to a goal from Daniel Xuereb (0-1).

Act 4

24 May 1997, Paris Saint-Germain - Strasbourg, Matchday 38
Beaten at Marseille eight days earlier, Paris Saint-Germain needed to win and hope that Nantes would stumble in order to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League, the objective for the end of that season. Everything fell into place: Les Canaris were beaten at Monaco (3-2) and the club from the capital came from behind to equalise through Paul Le Guen before getting the winner in the dying moments of the game through Vincent Guérin (88') to the delight of the Parc des Princes (2-1).

Act 5

13 May 2000, Troyes - Paris Saint-Germain, Matchday 34
A draw at Troyes and Les Parisiens would qualify for the UEFA Champions League. After trailing at the start of the encounter, Paris Saint-Germain fought back to get a draw, thanks to goals from Laurent Robert and Christian (2-2).

Act 6

23 May 2004, Bastia - Paris Saint-Germain, Matchday 38
Monaco's win at Bordeaux the night before the encounter put pressure on Coach Vahid Halilhodzic's side: Paris Saint-Germain needed to win at Bastia to finish in second place and directly qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Pedro Miguel Pauleta was the saviour for his side, who left Corsica with the three points (0-1).

Act 7

17 May 2008, Sochaux - Paris Saint-Germain, Matchday 38
It was a frightening match at the Stade Bonal for Paris Saint-Germain who were under pressure from Toulouse and Lens to avoid relegation to Ligue 2. At Sochaux, Amara Diané came to his side's rescue with a brace in Pedro Miguel Pauleta's last league match for the club.
