Six-goal feast for PSG's premiere at the Parc!
Buoyed by an electric Parc des Princes and led by an unstoppable front line, PSG beat Montpellier 6-0 in a spectacular match. Here's a look back at a thrilling reunion!
A flurry of goals as the Parisians beat Le Havre in Normandy on the opening day (4-1) whetted the appetite of our Parisians at the end of this sunny summer. But the rest of the menu was even heartier as Les Rouge et Bleu returned to their home arena. The Parc des Princes was in a frenzy, ready to savour the new specialties of our artists as they took on Montpellier in a fixture that has proven spectacular over the years. And for the occasion, Luis Enrique concocted a particularly tempting line-up: our new midfield recruit João Neves made his first Ligue 1 start after an impressive debut off the bench at Le Havre, while the Dembélé-Asensio-Barcola trio combined speed and technical ability in attack.
And, just as in Le Havre, you didn't have to wait long to see Paris Saint-Germain serving the main course! In the role of inspired chef, Bradley Barcola produced another sublime dish. Launched like a rocket down the left by Joao Neves, the French international sent the Parc into raptures by opening the scoring with an exquisite toe-poke (1-0, 4'). What a start to the feast!
Driven by a crowd in typically impressive voice, Paris Saint-Germain quickly showed their intentions in this battle of wills: constant availability, speed in the passing game and sharp runs... Our Rouge et Bleu had all the ingredients to get the evening off to a flying start!
And who better to trigger the second goal than the unstoppable duo of Bradley Barcola and Joao Neves? An explosive talent and a sniper with the final ball: our virtuosos struck again. From Bradley's acceleration, Joao produced a marvellous pass to Marco Asensio, who finished clinically to make the break (2-0, 24'). With four assists in two games, our Portuguese recruit is making the most of his early appearances in Rouge et Bleu... What a treat!
The Parisians' dribbling, Vitinha's interceptions, Pacho's defensive moves and Donnarumma's timely saves were just some of the highlights. Enough to make our mouths water before the second act!
After a short break between courses, our Parisians came back hungrier than ever. Ousmane Dembélé quickly donned his chef's hat and cooked up a superb assist for Bradley Barcola, who was more voracious than ever as he completed his double! (3-0, 53').
And what can we say about Nuno Mendes' latest masterpiece, which saw him send in a perfect curling cross to the far post for Achraf Hakimi to slot home (4-0, 58’)? From one full-back to the other, the danger came from everywhere in this totally inspired team! Then Warren got in on the act, delighting the crowd with a generous helping of nutmeg on the edge of the area before firing unstoppably into the back of the net (5-0, 61').
With a five-goal lead, coach Luis Enrique could afford to change his entire attacking recipe, and duly brought on Kang-In Lee, Randal Kolo Muani and new signing Désiré Doué to join in the culinary tour de force. With the Parc des Princes in rapturous mood, the Parisians were as free in their play as they were inspired, and Kang-in Lee rounded off the scoring with a superb curling effort (6-0, 81').
After an impressive team performance, Paris Saint-Germain have now won for the second time in a row to maintain their perfect start to the 2024-25 Ligue 1 season. Next up, the Parisians head north with a for against Lille in nine days' time. Mission accomplished!
