8 in a row for Paris as they continue their run!

The Paris Saint-Germain team has been on fire this league campaign, and managed to win against Montpellier on matchday 8 of Ligue 1 (2-0). Here’s a look back at the match!

Three days after their victory over Metz, Paris were back at the Parc des Princes on Saturday evening to face Montpellier, who were looking for points. For this occasion, Mauricio Pochettino made some changes in his starting eleven, with the return of Idrissa Gueye, Abdou Diallo, Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria.

Against an opponent that always gives them a hard time, Paris expected to have a tough time. But in their journey to the top of the league, the club from the capital wanted to continue their perfect record. And that's just as well, because the Rouge et Bleu put all the ingredients in place from the outset: intensity in the duels, quick bursts forward, and a defence ready to make any sacrifice to keep Keylor Navas's goal safe.

There was no time to relax: after 10 intense minutes, Mauricio Pochettino's men had already put their foot on the gas! And it was from a superb team move on the right that the breakthrough came. After a run from Angel Di Maria, Idrissa Gueye dribbled past his man before unleashing a rocket into the net! (1-0, 15'). It was a fine tribute to the left-footed efforts of Laurent Robert, who was present at the stadium.

After the opening goal, the Rouge et Bleu continued to give Jonas Omlin something to worry about, as Ander Herrera had the luxury of hitting the crossbar (42') while Neymar Jr's long-range effort was saved by the goalkeeper just before the break (46')! The Parisians came back with the same intensity in the second half and create chances. However, it looked as though their persistence would not pay off, as neither Mbappé, Neymar Jr nor Gueye managed to capitalise on their undoubted superiority on the pitch.

But Julian Draxler showed up! He came on as a substitute and scored the second goal after a few seconds on the pitch! (2-0, 89'). And it stayed like that until the end!

By winning, Paris has made a perfect start in Ligue 1, thus consolidating their place as undisputed leader after 8 consecutive victories. It's a breath of fresh air before Tuesday's big match against Manchester City in the Champions League.
