2022 World Cup final: Two global giants meet
Sunday sees Lionel Messi's Argentina take on Kylian Mbappé's France for the biggest prize in international football (kick-off 4pm CET).
After 63 games, France and Argentina are the only teams left standing in Qatar, and following the final in Lusail, Qatar, one of them will be celebrating a third World Cup (1978 & 1986 Argentina, 1998 & 2018 for France).
Two Parisians are going to face off for the ultimate title. Paris are among five clubs along with Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Manchester United and Tottenham certain to end the night with a world champion, but it's the French champions' duo who are the focus of attention.
Leo Messi could win the trophy that is missing from his exceptional collection. Having claimed the Copa America with his country, a World Cup would see the Parisian number 30 elevated to the same status in Argentina as Diego Maradona, a World Cup winner in 1986.
Kylian Mbappé already has a world title following success in the final - in which he scored - in 2018. With a second World Cup victory, he would embellish his global reputation still further.
Both men have five goals, leading the race for the Golden Boot as well, and could settle that title with a decisive goal in the final.
Messi is set to make a record 26th World Cup appearance, moving ahead of Lothar Matthaus. While Mbappé will become the fifth player in history to score in two World Cup finals (along with Vava in 1958 & 1962, Pelé in 1958 & 1970, Zinedine Zidane in 1998 & 2006, and Paul Breitner in 1974 & 1982) if he finds the net. He'd also be the second player to score in successive finals.
