The U19s lose out in the semi-finals

In the semi-final of the U19s Championnat National, the Paris Saint-Germain youngsters lost 2-4 against Monaco in Amnéville.

The starting eleven

Lavallée - Bodiang, El Hannach, Fernandez Veliz, Muntu Wa Mungu - Bagbema, Kari - Odobert - Gharbi, Yansané, Gassama.

Camara was without El-Chadaille Bitshiabu and Warren Zaire-Emery, who have been called up to the France U17s for the Euros, as well as Xavi Simons and Édouard Michut, who were rested after their season with the first team.

HOW it played out

One week after brilliantly beating Toulouse in the quarter-final of the U19s Championnat (6-1) and securing their spot in the final four, Zoumana Camara's side travelled to Moselle on Sunday afternoon. The objective: beat AS Monaco in order to make it into the final against Nantes and look to make it a fourth title.

A mission that looked like it was going to be successful to start with, given that Ismaël Gharbi's attacking teammates got the opening goal. Sékou Yansané perfectly set up Wilson Odobert, and his curled effort found the back of the Monaco net (1-0, 35'). Less than 10 minutes later, Mohamed Bamba got ASM back on level terms (1-1, 45').

The players from the capital knuckled down after the half-time break and returned for the second half determined to retake control of the encounter. The Paris Saint-Germain coach sent on Daouda Weidmann and it soon paid off as he found Gassama, who then played into Yansané to get the Titis' second of the afternoon (2-1, 58').

Unfortunately, it took less than two minutes for Les Monégasques to react, firstly through Ben Seghir (2-2, 60'), before Edan Diop found the back of the net on two occasions, from a free-kick (2-3, 69') and then in open play (2-4, 73').

At that stage it was difficult for our young Parisians to get back into the match, and the game ended 2-4. A cruel end to the season for our Rouge et Bleu , who were so close to making it into the final, after an exemplary season, finishing top of Group A in the U19s Championnat with 65 points, the best attack (95 goals scored) and the best defence (26 goals conceded) in the league.
