Striving for excellence

For the second year running, Paris Saint-Germain are joining forces with Aspetar to bring together the world’s leading experts in sports performance, medicine and analytics at the Parc des Princes.

On 20th and 21st May, Paris Saint-Germain are organising the second edition of "Striving for Excellence”, an international conference dedicated to sports performance, medicine and analytics. A reference in these fields and a long-term partner of the Club, the Aspetar international centre for excellence is now involved in the event.

How can training sessions be tailored to individuals? How can injuries be prevented and treated? How can tracking data be used for victory? All of these questions and more will be addressed over the two-day summit, with answers provided by the conference’s experts.

A platform for discussing the best ways to optimise athlete and team performance, the event will once again call upon a selection of top-notch speakers, including specialists in English, Spanish, French and Italian football, rugby, medicine and sports analytics.

Martin Buchheit, director of Sports Performance at Paris Saint-Germain, announced: “After the success of the first summit, we wanted to offer our peers even more captivating discussions with top experts in sports performance in order to make their daily efforts more efficient. For the second edition, we have brought together an impressive panel of speakers with the aim of making ‘Striving for Excellence’ a perennial date in the profession’s diary. We have increased the number of problems we are addressing and have created networking spaces to fulfil the participants’ requirements as best we can.

More than 200 experts – internationally-renowned researchers, physical trainers and physiotherapists for large sports clubs – will attend the summit to talk about the sector’s issues.

At this second edition, the Performance department is also shining the spotlight on data analytics. More than 3,000 students entered the Sport Analytic Challenge launched by the Club and the Ecole Polytechnique in March. After the first phase, six finalists – three French, two Chinese and one Canadian – were selected. Having worked closely with the Club’s staff and the academic staff from the prestigious French institute, they will present their original and high-performance methodologies to Striving for Excellence’s panel of experts at 4.30pm on 21st May. The winner will receive a €100,000 grant to do a post-doctorate at the Ecole Polytechnique.
