RIP Roger Taillibert

Roger Taillibert, a man inexorably linked to the history of Paris Saint-Germain, passed away on Thursday 3 October 2019, at 93 years of age.

In November 1967 French architect and passionate football fan Roger Taillibert was chosen to direct a study of the renovation of the Parc des Princes, that was to be rebuilt following the work done on the Paris ring road and inaugurated on 25 April 1973.

The creation of Paris Saint-Germain in 1970 is directly linked to the reconstruction of the Parc des Princes, with the sport's governing bodies wanting the new stadium to have a home club.

Work began on the ring road tunnel in July 1968, and finished in May 1972 with the first match played in the new ground, an Olympic qualifier between France and the USSR on 25 May 1972.

Roger Taillibert famously revealed how proud he was of the Parc des Princes, a stadium that has not aged: "This stadium is now part of the city's heritage, like Notre Dame. When I hear what the players and the fans say when I got to the Parc des Princes, everyone tells me it's magical. It's known around the world."

The club presents its sincere condolences to his loved ones.
