QF and PSG Academy team up to boost sporting inclusivity in Qatar

Doha, Qatar, October 31, 2022: A newly formed partnership is offering a specialized course for football coaches at the Paris Saint-Germain Qatar Academy that gives them the training required to assist Qatar Foundation’s Ability Friendly sports programs.

Ryan J. Moignard, Senior ASD/Special Needs Football Specialist at QF’s Ability-Friendly Program, said the collaboration will help Paris Saint-Germain Qatar Academy develop further inclusivity opportunities, and create more pathways for people with disabilities to play sports – while aligning with QF’s focus on accessibility.

“Given the different skills of people with disabilities, it is important for football coaches to be aware of the needs of each trainee according to their specific needs,” he said. "Understanding these needs is the basis for helping people with disabilities access sports and football.

"One of the most important skills that a coach who works with people with disabilities must possess is flexibility in the way they conduct training, and the ability to understand the needs of evert person, as each group needs a specific style of training and communication."

The agreement between the Ability-Friendly program and the Paris Saint-Germain Qatar Academy will give both partners the ability to provide more sports and leisure opportunities for people with disabilities across Qatar. It also has the potential to expand further, with future plans to offer such courses for trainers in schools and centers for people with disabilities.

Mark David Hughes, Director of Awsaj Academy – a specialized school under QF’s Pre-University Education – said: “Inclusive, diverse sporting environments don’t happen by chance – they require a lot of work and commitment by dedicated people who truly believe in the value of what people from diverse backgrounds can bring to an organization.

“For inclusion to work, it must be championed from the top. Through this collaboration with Qatar Foundation and our Ability Friendly Team, PSG have been unequivocal in their support and endorsement to provide an environment for all participants which is free from discrimination and promotes respectful, positive behaviors and values.”

Fabien Dilem, General Manager of the PSG Regional Office in Middle East and India said: “Inclusion and cohesion are essential in sports, and it’s important to work together to support our community.

“This is a wonderful experience for our coaches. The academy’s aim has always been to promote positive values. PSG Academy Qatar is thrilled to partner with QF in the endeavor.”

QF’s Ability Friendly Program is an initiative that supports children and adults of all abilities to participate in and benefit from sporting and developmental activities. The program includes various activities tailored to participants’ individual needs in sports including swimming and football, with these activities taking place at QF’s Education City and at Qatar Academy Al Khor and Qatar Academy Al Wakra, both of which are schools under QF’s Pre-University Education.
