Paris Saint-Germain Judo lays the foundations of its project

One year on from its inauguration, the Paris Saint-Germain Judo project is taking form with the recruitment of 14 young and highly talented judokas and the opening of its school in the 13th arrondissement of Paris in the CMG Dojo at Porte d’Italie.

Les Parisiens, led by legendary Judo champion Teddy Riner, have big ambitions, starting with the aim for nurturing the stars of tomorrow, including those to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while also offering the wider public the chance to practice their judo with special courses for women, seniors and children, especially those from underprivileged communities.

Djamel Bouras, president of Paris Saint-Germain Judo declared: « We are Paris Saint-Germain, winning titles is part of this club’s DNA. But the club’s judo project encompasses more than just top level athletes. Our school will welcome hundreds of participants, of all ages, and we will also be developing our Judo Solidarity section that will over hundreds of local youngsters an initiation into the sport. We have already started working very closely with the other clubs in the region, the Ile-de-France Judo League and the French Judo Federation. I am convinced that Paris Saint-Germain’s experience and notoriety in the region will help the sport of Judo grow.”

Global superstar and Parisian judoka Teddy Riner added: “I am delighted to the young kids will be wearing the Paris Saint-Germain judogi like I did when I started out. Today, I am very proud to give back to the club and everything it did for me, especially by welcoming children that could really benefit from the educational aspects of our sport. Our Dojo will be a precious tool in achieving the triple objective we have set ourselves: develop the best judokas of tomorrow, initiate the wider public to the values of judo and launch charity activities through the sport.”

Judo at PSG is not entirely new. The section existed already between 1992 and 2002 with Olympic champions such as David Douillet and Djamel Bouras.
