Paris Saint-Germain Esports enters Rainbow Six in Japan
New generation club and esports pioneer Paris Saint-Germain becomes the first football club to enter Rainbow Six Siege, a popular online tactical shooter video game developed and published by Ubisoft. This brand-new team will be joining the Rainbow Six Japan League, which is organized by NTT Docomo starting March 26th. Five Japanese players based in Kanagawa, Hokkaido, Okinawa, and Osaka will represent the club.
Fabien Allègre, Brand Director, Paris Saint-Germain, declared: “The Japanese esports scene is one of the most dynamic in the world and we are proud today to join the family. Rainbow 6 is a new type of game that we had not explored yet. It is an exciting time for the PSG esports section. In only 5 years, PSG esports has successfully developed a strong network of franchises worldwide. We run teams in France, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bangkok and now Tokyo. We are looking forward building new successes in the coming years.”
Sebastien Wasels, Managing Director Asia Pacific, Paris Saint-Germain, added: “Over the years, Paris Saint-Germain has developed a special bond with Japanese fans, and we are delighted to open a new chapter of our history entering Rainbow 6 Japan League. Since opening our Japanese office in 2018, Paris Saint-Germain has dramatically increased its presence on the archipelago. We already have 3 official boutiques, 2 in Tokyo, 1 in Nagoya, and more is to come in the coming months!”
This is the league’s second official year, and it has expanded to ten professional teams, up from eight in 2021. There will also be the Rainbow Six Japan Championship 2022 later this year where the champions will be crowned the best team in Japan.
The Rainbow Six game was initially released in 2015 and currently has more than 80 million registered players globally.
