Paris, 50 thank yous!

Paris Saint-Germain officially secured the Club's 12th Ligue 1 title after Lyon's 3-2 win over Monaco.

12 titles, a record that was already set last season by Les Rouge et Bleu as they overtook Saint-Etienne, the only French club to have reached the symbolic milestone of 10 league titles.

This trophy is also symbolic: Paris Saint-Germain now have 50 trophies to their name since the Club was founded in 1970, a total never before reached in the history of French football.

While the general public considers the first trophy won by the Club to be the Coupe de France in 1982 against Saint-Etienne in the final (2-2 a.e.t., 6-5 on penalties, on 15 May 1982), it was actually 11 years earlier that Paris added their first accolade to their record, by winning the National title (now Ligue 2). After dominating the Centre division, captain "Tchouki" Djorkaeff and his teammates drew 2-2 with Monaco (winner of the Centre group) and defeated Lille 4-1 (champion of the Nord group) to claim the trophy of this triangular tournament.

Paris sit at the summit of French football, far ahead of Marseille (28 trophies since 1899). The club from the capital now holds the absolute record in the league, as well as in the Coupe de France (14 victories, compared to Marseille's 10), in the Trophée des Champions (12 wins, 8 for Lyon), and in the now-defunct Coupe de la Ligue (9 wins, compared to Bordeaux, Marseille, and Strasbourg's 3 each).

The most significant trophy to date remains the victory in the European Cup Winners' Cup, on 8 May 1996, in Brussels against Rapid Vienna (1-0, goal scored by Bruno Ngotty from a free kick).

50 trophies before an exciting end to the season, with Les Parisiens still in contention for a historic quadruple ahead of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund and the Coupe de France final against Lyon on 25 May.

50 trophies for a club created just 53 years ago, and the best is yet to come!
