Louis Cardiet has passed away

Paris Saint-Germain has learned of the passing of its former defender, Louis Cardiet, aged 77.

'Loulou' Cardiet, an iconic captain of Rennes, accepted in 1973 - at the age of 30 -to leave his native Brittany for one final challenge: get Paris Saint-Germain promoted to Ligue 1. After winning the Coupe de France with Rennes in 1965 and 1971, he played six times for France, the last of which was under Just Fontaine at the Parc des Princes in June 1967. In 1973, Fontaine brought him in to reinforce the Parisian defence. It paid off as promotion followed 12 months later, and after 88 appearances over his two years in the capital, he retired, returning to Brittany to live in Lorient.

He was one of the players honoured by the club at the Parc des Princes on 12 September, 2016.

Paris Saint-Germain would like to present their condolences to his family and loved ones.
