Happy 48th Birthday!
48 years ago today, on 12 August 1970, the Paris Police Prefecture officially noted the change of name of the Paris Football-Club to Paris Saint-Germain Football-Club.
The process of changing the name had begun several months earlier... On 27 May 1970, the Paris FC general assembly, mandated by the FFF to create a big club in Paris, voted unanimously for the fusion with the football section of Stade Saint-Germain, that played in the second division. On 4 June, by 85 votes to five and one abstention, Stade Saint-Germain accepted the fusion with Paris FC, to cut the football team from the rest of the sports club and adopt the name: Paris Saint-Germain FC.
On 26 June, the new club's administrative council confirmed the creation of PSG. Pierre-Etienne Guyot was named president of Paris Saint-Germain, with two vice-presidents: Guy Crescent and Henri Patrelle. On 8 August 1970, the directors of Paris FC asked for authorisation to change the club name to Paris Saint-Germain Football Club.
On 12 August 1970 the request was accepted and was published in the Journal Officiel, on 27 August 1970.
